Disaster Support & Mass Casualty Recovery Solutions
After a catastrophe or mass casualty, recovery is one of the most challenging processes. When it comes to protecting the dignity of the deceased and preserving the body for investigation or family arrangements, high-quality disaster body bags are a necessity. Disaster body bags at the ready can make the recovery process a little easier for everyone involved.
Engineered for mass casualty response and field recovery, our heavy-duty disaster pouches provide a secure, dignified solution for human remains transport. Constructed from premium vinyl or reinforced polyethylene, every bag features pressure-tested heat-sealed seams and high-tensile reinforced handles.
Our mission is to provide body bags for disasters that fit your organization’s specifications. For example, we have a range of colors and styles, with handled bags, refrigeration-compatible bags, and cremation-safe bags.
We sew and seal reinforce all vinyl and polyethylene bags with a heat seal bar for extra durability and have extensive experience in various materials, including:
- Nylon-Reinforced Poly Material
- PVC
- Polyethylene
- Bioplastics
Types of Body Bags for Mass Casualties
- Heavy Duty: The Heavy Duty body bags have a leakproof construction with reinforced handles on all sides. Its high-density 20-millimeter construction with a vinyl interior lining that won’t tear or allow any contaminants to enter the bag.
- PE-SCRIM: The PE-SCRIM body bag offers a six-handled bag made from white polyethylene and reinforced nylon scrim. This bag is chlorine-free, so crematoriums can also use it.
- Jumbo: Bariatric bags or jumbo bags can carry heavier decedents. In a disaster, you should have multiple sizes available. Likewise, our jumbo bag has sixteen handles and unbreakable straps for transport.
- Water Recovery: Our underwater recovery body bags are designed to drain for water retrievals. They have a resilient fabric, a three-sided perimeter zipper, and orange floater grips. They also come in yellow for visibility and will fully drain when removed from the water. These bags can be placed directly into another body bag for body transport.

Disaster Support & Recovery FAQs
What materials are best suited for long-term field remains storage?
For scenarios where immediate refrigeration is unavailable, we recommend our Scrim-Reinforced Polyethylene (PE) pouches. Unlike standard vinyl, reinforced PE offers superior puncture resistance and a more robust vapor barrier to contain odors and prevent fluid migration. It is specifically engineered to maintain integrity in extreme temperatures and rugged outdoor environments.
Are your disaster pouches compliant with OSHA and CDC guidelines?
Yes. All Classic Plastics disaster recovery bags are designed to meet OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030 standards for Bloodborne Pathogens. Our heat-sealed seams and leak-proof construction follow Universal Precautions for the containment of infectious materials, ensuring the safety of recovery teams and transport personnel during mass casualty events.
What is the maximum weight capacity of your bariatric disaster bags?
Our Heavy-Duty and Bariatric pouches are constructed to handle significant weight loads, typically tested for upwards of 400–600+ lbs depending on the specific model and handle configuration. The integrated reinforced handles are perimeter-stitched or heat-welded to distribute weight evenly, preventing tearing during multi-person manual carries.
Can these pouches be used for both cremation and traditional burial?
We offer specific Chlorine-Free (Cremation-Ready) options that are EPA Burn Wise compliant. While our heavy-duty vinyl bags are excellent for transport and burial, they are not recommended for cremation. For facilities requiring a “one-bag” solution for both recovery and cremation, our Polyolefin bags provide the necessary strength while burning cleanly without harmful emissions.
Do you offer "Emergency Ready" bulk ordering for municipal preparedness?
Absolutely. We specialize in B2B logistical support for government agencies and NGOs. We maintain “Safety Stock” for disaster-response organizations and offer pre-packaged disaster kits that include pouches, shrouds, and identification tags. We can facilitate rapid-shipment protocols to ensure your municipality is equipped before an event occurs.
